10 things the NCAA tournament selection committee got wrong

Selection Sunday is in the books and again there were some questionable decisions by the NCAA tournament selection committee.

Here are 10 things they got wrong when putting together this year's field of 68 that will determine the 2014 national champion.

1. Kansas as a No. 2 seed With the injury to Joel Embiid and his status uncertain, it seemed the Jayhawks would drop a seed line as they are obviously not the same team without him.

2. Kentucky as a No. 8 seedThis might be the biggest surprise. Kentucky had fallen quite a bit recently but I felt they deserved at least a 6 seed, maybe 7.

3. SMU out of tournamentHated to see this happen but with a very weak non-conference schedule, the Mustangs could ill-afford to lose to Houston in the AAC tournament.

4. North Carolina State in tournamentThe Wolfpack were just an average team all year. Nothing stood out as great and nothing was too horrible. A bit surprised the committee took them.

5. Colorado a No. 8 seedSince Spencer Dinwiddie's injury, Colorado has been an average team. He will not be back so I felt they were closer to the bottom of the bracket. Early season results may have played a part in this seeding decision.

6. Saint Joseph's as a No. 10 seedWinning the Atlantic 10 tournament and getting a 10 seed leads me to believe they were not a lock for an at-large pick as I had predicted. The Hawks should have been a bit higher with six top 50 wins.

7. Saint Louis as a No. 5 seed This team pretty much fell apart late in the season and the committee seems to have overlooked some bad losses and poor play.

8. New Mexico as a No. 7 seedAnyone who watched the Mountain West tournament final saw a team deserving of a higher seed win it. New Mexico can give teams fits.

9. Michigan State as a No. 8 seedWinning the Big Ten tournament as easily as the Spartans didn't do much to help them move higher. They will be dangerous.

10. BYU as a No. 10 seedYes, BYU deserved to be in, but a 10 seed seems a bit high for a team with several bad losses plus a season-ending injury to a key player, starting guard Kyle Collinsworth.
