All New HTC One Accessory Makes Reading Notifications Colorful

Just when you thought you knew everything there is to know about the All New HTC One, one of the tech world's most notorious, yet accurate leaksters has come through with some new information on the device. According to a new tweet from @evleaks, the All New HTC One will be supported by a new peripheral that is unique in how it facilitates one of those basic and essential smartphone functionalities - reading notifications.

The new accessory works in a similar, though ultimately different way from the Motorola Active Display feature on the Moto X, and as shown on @evleaks' tweet, it will light up and display certain notifications, such as the time and weather in the image you see above. This may likely result in some significant battery drain, which is what makes it interesting to consider what type of display panel HTC will be using on its next flagship. The company usually uses LCD panels, which isn't as power-efficient as AMOLED panels, which are most famous for being found on Samsung devices, but are also used on the Moto X. It's also possible that the smart cover bakes in some extra battery life and the lighting itself, as opposed to draining the All New HTC One's battery or the lighting being found on the back of the device.

In addition to this new feature and the accessory that powers it, @evleaks also claimed as an aside that the All New HTC One will be offered in Google Play form. This would mean a device with similar specifications and features, except for the Sense user experience being stripped in lieu of vanilla Android sans bloatware. Users will also get Android version upgrades or bug fix/stability updates faster than non-Google Play users do, which makes for another selling point for the rumored All New HTC One Google Play Edition.
