College Basketball|Midwest: St. Louis 83, NC State 80 (OT)

ORLANDO, Fla. - The St. Louis Billikens were in such a downward spiral that an early exit from the N.C.A.A. tournament seemed imminent. They had lost four of their last five games, and after falling behind by 16 points Thursday night to North Carolina State, they appeared set to be the next No. 5 seed that would go down.

But a tenacious full-court press began producing turnovers, and poor free-throw shooting by the Wolfpack buoyed the Billikens. They forced overtime and rode the momentum to an 83-80 victory to oust 12th-seeded North Carolina State.

Rob Loe led St. Louis with 22 points.

Jordair Jett hit a driving layup with 18.8 seconds remaining in regulation and was fouled by T. J. Warren. Jett missed the free throw, giving the Wolfpack a last shot, but Tyler Lewis missed a short jumper as time expired.

Warren scored 28 points for the Wolfpack.
