AUSTIN (KXAN) - The South by Southwest Music portion started Tuesday, and once again city teams are patrolling to make sure parties and events during South By Southwest don't get out of hand.

The Public Assembly Code Enforcement - or PACE - team is looking for problems with overcrowding, permitting issues, or even things like the safety of temporary structures at SXSW.

'We usually respond to requests from other agencies or citizens about things that they feel might be unsafe,' said Lt. Vincent Hernandez with the Austin Police Department, who also heads up PACE. '[The] Public Assembly Code Enforcement Team will be out for the whole duration 9of South by Southwest). We're working a lot of hours, putting in a lot of hours. But again, it's for the safety of the party-goers.'

The team did not shut down any events or issue citations on Tuesday - as of 8 p.m.

However, Monday, the team shut down two events and cited two others for permitting issues.

Austin's PACE team also shut down three events Sunday. One was for overcrowding and the other two had permitting issues.

Hernandez says most of the time organizers fix issues voluntarily and giving citations is rare.

In those rare instances, the parties can be shut down.

Events and venues submitted 220 permits for SXSW 2014, according to the City of Austin.
