Henrik Lundqvist notches 300th career win as NY Rangers shut out Red Wings ...

The early King gets the win.


Brian Boyle scored early, Chris Kreider tallied twice in the third period, and Henrik Lundqvist made 30 saves as the Rangers woke early and picked up their second straight win, 3-0, over the Detroit Red Wings in a 12:30 p.m. nationally-televised start at the Garden that actually felt earlier due to Daylight Savings Time.


The game concluded with the entire Garden chanting 'Hen-rik! Hen-rik!' following the 300th win of the goalie's career, second in franchise history behind Mike Richter.



After going seven straight periods through three games without a five-on-five goal, the Blueshirts scored all three of their goals on the five-on-five Sunday. Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh had two assists apiece, both on Kreider's goals, which began with a tip-in 14 seconds into the third period of a McDonagh shot from the point.


Lundqvist recorded his fourth shutout of the season, including his second of the calendar year against the Red Wings at the Garden. Sunday's actually was his first shutout since a 1-0 blanking of Detroit in New York on Jan. 16, and the 49th of his career.

The Rangers' franchise goaltender stumbled out of the Winter Olympic break, posting a 0-2-1 record in his first three starts after Sochi. Now, however, Lundqvist has won two straight heading into a three-game road trip to Carolina, Minnesota and Winnipeg.


The Rangers (35-26-4, 74 points), who have 17 regular season games remaining, completed a three-game, season-series sweep of the Red Wings (29-22-13, 71 points) in Detroit's first season in the Eastern Conference.


The Blueshirts moved one point ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers in the Metropolitan Division and also gained important points against a Detroit team that could challenge them for one of the East's two wild-card spots - if the Rangers don't finish in their division's top three.


The Wings had their chances, but Lundqvist stood strong, most notably on a Todd Bertuzzi power play shot late in the second period with New York leading, 1-0, that protected the lead until Kreider scored both of his goals.


Dominic Moore's secondary assist on Boyle's first-period goal was Moore's 200th point of his NHL career. John Moore's primary assist on the goal was his second assist in two games after registering none in his previous nine. Boyle's goal was his first in nine games and his second in the last 21.
