HTC One wins iF gold product design award
Taipei, March 3 (CNA) Taiwan's HTC Corp. said Monday that its HTC One has won the iF gold product design award, another global accolade for its flagship smartphone.The latest award took into consideration design quality, workmanship, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental friendliness, functionality, ergonomics, visualization of use, safety, brand value, branding and universal design.'Hearing so many people say how much they love the HTC One is a credit to the incredible designers and engineers who worked on the project, displaying an obsessive attention to detail to produce something that has earned HTC legions of new fans and critical acclaim globally,' HTC CEO Peter Chou said in an e-mailed statement.The HTC One sports a 4.7-inch display with full-HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 1.7-gigahertz quad-core processor and a new 'UltraPixel' camera that enables ultra-sharp photo shooting and video recording, according to the Taiwanese company.The jury of the iF award reviewed a total of 4,615 entries, selecting the 75 products that they thought best represented design excellence.'The HTC One is a well done, high-quality phone with a lot of precision in it and with a lot of effort in the detailing,' the jury said on the award's website.'It fits perfectly into your palm due to its curved backside, which offers a great product experience. It is a very well-polished phone with quality that propels HTC to new heights,' it said.The new award came a week after the HTC One was named the 'Best Smartphone of the Year' by GSM Association (GSMA) -- a top award in the global mobile communications industry -- at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade show in Barcelona, Spain.The phone was also won the 'Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet' title at the MWC trade show in 2013.After these prestigious awards, industry analysts are expecting a strong follow-up with HTC's next flagship model that is scheduled to be unveiled March 25.HTC released a teaser video Feb. 26, hinting that the phone might have a name similar to the HTC One but lengthier -- The All New HTC One.The new handset, codenamed M8 within the company, reportedly will feature the same metal casing design as its predecessor, a 5-inch full-HD display, an improved Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, the new Sense 6.0 user interface and a twin camera on the back.The Taiwanese firm has taken an aggressive stance against its main rival Samsung Electronics Co., saying that consumers who intend to buy Samsung's new Galaxy S5 will soon regret their choice when HTC unveils its next flagship phone.HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang told Taiwanese media last week at the MWC trade show that she believes her company will return to profitability in the second quarter of the year when its new products go on sale.The phone vendor posted its first quarterly loss as a publicly listed company in the third quarter of 2013 and recorded its second straight quarterly operating loss in the October-December period.
