Joey Logano captures pole for Las Vegas Sprint Cup race

LAS VEGAS -- Team Penske did it again.

Penske's Fords made it 2-for-2 under the Sprint Cup Series' new qualifying format on Friday, with Joey Logano winning the pole position ahead of teammate Brad Keselowski at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Last week, Penske swept the front row in reverse order with Keselowski on top.

'I told him we're 1-1 now,' Logano said. 'He's got one and I've got one. ... That's pretty awesome. It's a privilege to drive these cars. It's so much fun.'

Logano's track record (193.278 mph) beat his teammate's 193.099 mph in the final of three rounds - part of NASCAR's new knockout-style qualifying.

Clint Bowyer was third, followed by Austin Dillon and Jimmie Johnson. Among those who also made the final round were Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Jamie McMurray, Aric Almirola, Brian Vickers, Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards and Martin Truex Jr.

Blake Koch, Landon Cassill, Dave Blaney, J.J. Yeley and Joe Nemechek failed to qualify.
