Muppets rule humans at 'Most Wanted' premiere
Forget Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell. The sportlight's on the Muppets.
The biggest stars of the Muppets Most Wanted premiere Tuesday night did not even walk down the red carpet.
Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Gonzo, along with hordes of other Muppets, made their way down the El Capitan Theatre red carpet in a car and stole the show from their human counterparts who included Tina Fey, Modern Family's Ty Burrell, Ricky Gervais and Danny Trejo.
The Muppets might not be much for walking but they know how to attract attention.
After they were driven to prime spots on the red carpet to hold court, they caused a celebrity bottleneck down the rest of the red carpet. The foam creations posed in front of a faux safe full of money to signify the crime-caper comedy opening March 21.
'These guys have been icons since the '70s,' said Burrell, eyeing the backup. 'I'm very happy to play second fiddle to the Muppets.'
Burrell plays the Interpol agent trying to crack the case in the movie directed by James Bobin.
'If a movie premiere isn't absurd enough already, then nothing is more absurd than doing it all with Muppets,' said Burrell, with a smile. 'All in the best possible way.'

Josh Grobin, who makes a cameo appearance in the film, was not bothered by the wait in line to get past the Muppets.
'It's like waiting in line to meet the President or the Queen,' said Grobin. 'You have to kiss the green ring in order to make your way into this film. And I'm not above that.'
He added, 'We are mere mortals who are just here in celebration of the Muppets. I'm getting a bit of a tan from their superstar light they are throwing. I'm in awe. Just as I was on set.'
