New Jersey Devils vs. Carolina Hurricanes

The Devils look to rebound after a loss in Detroit yesterday as they host the Hurricanes.

The Canes and Devils meet up on Saturday less than 24 hours after both teams had difficult defeats that halted their progress in the Eastern Conference.

Carolina has been one of the league's biggest disappointments over the last two seasons and while injuries have played a factor and a big one at that, other teams have endured it as well and have been able to find a way to win. Carolina heads into New Jersey on Saturday coming off a tough loss against the Rangers but won't have time to worry about it as they hit the road to take on a New Jersey team who is very much in the mix in the Metropolitan division as they trail the Flyers by just five points for second spot. The Canes do have plenty of talent but will need to make some additions in the offseason and one of them may come in the form of a trade for one of their goaltenders as they have three stable options in the form of Cam Ward, Anton Khudobin, and Justin Peters.

New Jersey continues to move forward despite a plethora of setbacks both on and off the ice and for a team who has lost so many pieces from their Stanley Cup team two years ago you have to give them credit for where they are in the standings. The Devils are a very odd bunch in terms of their makeup as they don't have one major superstar but a number of role players and grinders who give them team an edge that makes them tough to play against and they also have a ton of leadership with the likes of Marty Brodeur, Patrik Elias, and Jaromir Jagr in the room. While it may be a couple seasons before things get back on track in the Swamp I think they could very well sneak into the postseason and that will come with a victory here against the Hurricanes.
