Nexus 5 and 7 Availability Expanded To New Countries

Seth Fitzgerald | On 19, Mar 2014

At the same time as Google is making its Chromecast streaming device available in eleven other markets outside of the United States, the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 are also gaining a more global reach.

The online Google Play store will begin to sell the smartphone and tablet in a variety of countries. Google's latest Nexus 5 handset will now be available in Austria, Belgium, Portugal, and Sweden, while the Nexus 7 will end up in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, and Sweden.

Both devices are now available in the same group of 20 countries, however the LTE version of the Nexus 7 will only be offered (as of writing) in 12 of those markets.

Google Play Movies and Music has also been expanding to new areas well, showing that Google is working to get its products and services in as many countries as possible. Movies is now available in 38 extra countries while Music has made its way into four additional markets.

No matter which device or service you are looking at, the majority of Google's expansion efforts have been focused on Europe, where the market for its products is particularly large.

Both the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 have made their way onto the country-specific Google Play stores with similar prices. So, if you are already looking to buy one of the devices, you should be able to do so now.

Chromecast appears to be lagging behind, although previous leaks had revealed that it should be coming to additional markets on Wednesday March 19, even though the expansion was announced yesterday.

Now that the devices are available in new areas, it is even more important that Google Play Music and Movies is expanding, since no one wants to pay hundreds of dollars for a phone or tablet that has a limited amount of content.

Summary: Google has expanded the availability of the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. Both are now offered in 20 countries. The expansion primarily focuses on a variety of European markets.
