When Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested earlier this month and charged with DWI and four counts of possession of a controlled substance, police said they found several pill bottles with prescription drugs in Irsay's car.

They also found nearly $30,000 in cash.

According to the police report obtained by the Indianapolis Star, officers found $29,029 in his Toyota Highlander -- including $14,516 in a metal briefcase, $2,513 in his wallet and $12,000 in a laundry bag found on the passenger's side floorboard. Police also found pills in the briefcase and in two laundry bags.

For some perspective on what that kind of cash would mean to a man of Irsay's means ...

Irsay still hasn't been formally charged with anything -- all the charges listed above are considered preliminary -- and until he is, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell isn't inclined to punish him, though he did say at the owners' meetings this week that 'obviously any policies or laws that are broken, whether they are commissioner, player or coach those are subject to discipline.'

When police pulled over Irsay on March 16, the Colts owner said he was trying to find his house but had gotten confused on which road it was located. A new home bought by Irsay reportedly is less than a half-mile from where his car was stopped.

The officer observed that Irsay's speech was slow and slurred and that his eyes were red and watery.

More from the Star:

Before asking Irsay to get out of his vehicle, the officer initiated several 'pre-exit' field sobriety tests. First he asked Irsay to recite a portion of the alphabet, starting at 'C' and ending at 'N.' Irsay completed that test successfully but then started again - this time continuing through the entire alphabet.

'After reciting the letter Z,' the officer reported, 'Irsay recited the lettering I, N and G.'

A few minutes later, Irsay was asked to get out of his vehicle. The report said Irsay was unsteady and had trouble standing, prompting officers to cut short some dexterity testing. Irsay was unable to stand heel to toe and two officers 'continuously had to support Irsay in order to prevent him from falling over,' the report said.

After agreeing to a breath test at the scene, Irsay later was arrested. He then refused a blood test when he got to the police station. The Star writes that the refusal for a blood test automatically leads to a one-year driver's license suspension. But eventually, a warrant was obtained, and police took two vials of his blood.

For now, Irsay is in a health-care facility, and he was not present at this week's owners' meetings.
