Recap: San Francisco vs. Chicago Cubs

Scottsdale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Christian Villanueva scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error in the top of the seventh inning, lifting the Chicago Cubs to a 3-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Monday in spring training action.


Chris Coghlan and Emilio Bonifacio each added an RBI single for the Cubs, who saw starter Jeff Samardzija strike out five while permitting two runs on five hits over four innings.


San Francisco starter Matt Cain struck out seven over five perfect innings, but the Cubs broke through against the Giants' bullpen in the sixth.


Pablo Sandoval scorched a two-run single in the fourth to account for San Francisco's offense.

Seeking a lefty specialist to bolster their bullpen, the Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to terms with veteran Oliver Perez on a two-year contract Monday.



Andre Ethier hit a three-run homer and Juan Uribe added a solo shot in the first inning off Oakland's Jarrod Parker as the Los Angeles Dodgers and A's played to an 8-all tie Monday.



Chris Sale breezed into the fifth inning with two-hit ball shortly after being chosen the White Sox's opening-day starter, and Chicago beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3 Monday.
