The 49ers don't have many places on their roster where they aren't deep, but cornerback isn't a strength. And it's going to be weaker with San Francisco reportedly cutting Carlos Rogers.

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports the Niners are set to cut Rogers and set him into free agency.

Rogers started all 16 games for the Niners in the last three seasons after being signed as a free agent by San Francisco prior to Jim Harbaugh's first season in 2011. (He initially signed a one-year contract and then parlayed it into a four-year, $31.3 million deal in 2012.)

But the cornerback was carrying an $8 million cap hit in 2014 and only $2.9 million in dead money, so at 33 he's a logical cut.

Rogers was likely asked to take a paycut by the 49ers but, like last year, clearly declined. The difference is this year Rogers doesn't have a massive dead money number staring the 49ers down.
