Report: Browns, LB Karlos Dansby agree to terms on 4

A year ago, nobody wanted Karlos Dansby. Now, according to the Arizona Republic's Kent Somers, the 32-year-old linebacker is headed to the Browns on a four-year, $24 million deal, with $10 million in the first year and $14 million guaranteed.


Dansby began his career in Arizona but left for the Dolphins in 2010. He was released by Miami last offseason before returning to the Cardinals on a one-year deal where he exceeded everyone's expectations. He finished 2013 with 16 starts, 122 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 4 interceptions and 19 passes defended as part of the league's second-ranked defense.


According to ProFootballFocus.com, Dansby ranked fifth in the NFL among all inside linebackers, behind only NaVorro Bowman, Patrick Willis, Derrick Johnson and Stephen Tulloch.


Now he'll join a Browns defense that didn't meet expectations a year ago, and replace D'Qwell Jackson, who signed a four-year, $22 million deal with the Colts last week. Clearly, the Browns think that Dansby is worth the extra $2 million (on paper, anyway), despite being two years older than Jackson. And based on last year's production, they're right; ProFootballFocus.com graded Jackson out at -11.6 last season, while Dansby graded out at 13.3. As we mentioned above, Dansby ranked fifth among all inside linebackers; Jackson, meanwhile, was 42nd.
