Runnin' Utes come up short at Stanford in regular

Despite going just 5 of 6 from the free throw line in the final two minutes, Dwight Powell hit the deciding free throw with 36 seconds left in the game to help Stanford defeat the Runnin' Utes 61-60 Saturday afternoon in Palo Alto, Calif.

The Utes trailed 54-43 with 7:51 left in regulation, when they responded with a 13-3 run to close the gap to 57-56 on a wide-open 3-pointer by Brandon Taylor with 4:02 left in the game. Dallin Bachynski then gave the Utes their first lead of the game on a slam with 2:40 left in the game.

However, Josh Huestis canned a 3-pointer on the Cardinal's next possession to help Stanford regain the lead, 60-58. But after four straight missed free throws by Stanford, Bachynski tied the game up at 60 at the free throw line with 55 seconds left in regulation.

After Powell split a set of free throws to give Stanford back the lead, Utah had one last chance to win the game, but the Utes turned the ball over with 1.8 seconds left to close out the game.

Utah closes out the regular season 20-10 overall and 9-9 in Pac-12 play with the loss.

Taylor led the Utes with 14 points, while Delon Wright added 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Bachynski and Jeremy Olsen each finished in double figures for Utah.

The Utes committed 17 turnovers and were out-rebounded 16-8 on the offensive glass, but out-shot the Cardinal 55-48 percent from the floor.

Chasson Randle led all scorers with 22 points for Stanford.
