Samsung and Fox to Bring More 4K Content to Ultra HD TVs

This is the year of Ultra HD (4K) TV. We saw so many sets unveiled at January's CES (and since then), it would make your eyeballs explode -- in a good way. Offering four times the resolution of full HD, Ultra HD is truly a sight to behold.

Well, it is if you have access to 4K content. Yes, people love to gripe about set prices. However, even more concerning is the current lack of 4K content available to 4K TV owners. Well, Samsung and 20th Century Fox are working on that.

Today, Samsung announced a new partership with Fox. Well technically, it's not new. The two companies first said that they had something cooking back at CES. That something is the Samsung UHD Video Pack, a 1TB hard drive packed with 4K versions of different blockbusters from different studios. Like Sony's FMP-X 4K Ultra HD Media Player, the Samsung UHD Video Pack will only work with Samsung UHD TVs.

And now for something completely different. This new partnership will supposedly put 4K content from Fox on Samsung TVs, but directly through the Smart Hub interface.

The latest version of the Samsung Smart Hub promises to be faster, which should result in less searching and more watching. It also features access to live TV, VOD apps and social media in one place. Another aspect worth mentioning is the Multi-Link feature, which allows users to transform the TV into four screens that can access live TV, streaming video and the web simultaneously.

There's no word on what will be offered through that Smart Hub interface -- and more importantly, when. However, the Samsung UHD Video Pack is still coming and will include flicks such as Night at the Museum, The Counselor and X-Men Origins: Wolverine from 20th Century Fox, as well as G.I. Joe: Retaliation and World War Z from Paramount Pictures. Three unnamed documentaries will also be included when the Samsung UHD Video Pack ships in April with a $299.99 MSRP. Samsung is also planning a second UHD Video Pack with more UHD content for sometime in the second half of this year.
