Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez returns to action with 10th round TKO win over Alfredo ...

Saul Alvarez (R): Got himself back on track with dominant win over Alfredo Angulo

Saul Alvarez made a winning return to the ring as he stopped fellow Mexican Alfredo Angulo in the 10th round at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

'Canelo', who lost a mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather last time out, had far too much ammunition for the brave but outclassed Angulo in a non-title bout.

Although Angulo was not put on the canvas, referee Tony Weeks decided to step in at 47 seconds of the 10th round as former WBC and WBA light-middleweight champion Alvarez landed a big uppercut.

Alvarez, who improved to 43-1-1, landed combinations at will on Angulo and by the middle rounds the only suspense left in the fight was whether or not Angulo (22-4) would be able to last the distance.

'Tonight, I was the best fighter and definitely rebounded from the Mayweather fight with my performance,' Alvarez said.

Although Angulo was well behind he believed he should have been given the opportunity to carry on fighting.

Angulo said: 'I'm upset because they should have let the fight go on. I'm fine and I was fighting.'

The 31-year-old did not stop coming forward but often found himself walking straight onto power punches from Alvarez, who won eight of the first nine rounds on two judges' scorecards and seven on the third.

'He wanted to please the fans because he felt in the Mayweather fight he let a lot of people down. Canelo was not satisfied with just the win. He came to make a statement and you saw that,' Alvarez's promoter Richard Schaefer said.

The only slight drawback for Alvarez came on the day before the fight when he was forced to hand over $100,000 of possible earnings to Angulo after weighing in at 155 pounds, 1lb over the light-middleweight limit.
