Search Google For Restaurants And Now Get Menus In Card Form

I'll be the first to admit this, searching for Menu's via Google can be a dismal experience. Previously you'd have to deal with simply typing or speaking the name of your restaurant into the search bar, then hoping that the results list would populate the establishment you're looking for first, and finally navigating to the webpage to grab the menu that you hopefully don't have to download. While this isn't the absolute worst experience one can have, it wasn't exactly quick, and certainly not the most convenient. Google has more than likely felt this feeling of discontent themselves, which is why they had the great idea to add in cards to Google Search results that list the Full menus of restaurants.

First off, there are a few caveats with this particular new feature that was added to Google Search. At the current time this feature is only usable within the U.S. So, sorry for any Android or Google Search users that were hoping to take advantage of this feature tonight or this weekend that live outside the country. Secondly, you will get varied results based off of the area you live in, and the restaurant that you're looking for. For example if you live in or near a major metropolitan area like Portland, you'll probably end up finding this feature more useful, and that it works more often. I found one result so far in my local area, while both results I searched for in Portland came up right away.

Now, when the search actually pulls up what you're looking for, it's awesome. The results start by listing the name of the establishment, followed by the address so you can find it easily if you've never been there. As for the menu, it's broken up into tabs which you can cycle through with just a swipe of your finger from right to left. The first tab is called 'At A Glance', and gives you the basic rundown of what the place offers on the menu, which might be populated with the most popular items. From there you'll find additional tabs like Entree and Dessert offerings, as well as Salads and other things. I found it to be easy to use and much better than having to sift through pages of menus on the official websites. Best of all, it's fast, and everything has more of an 'at your fingertips' feel to it. You should be able to utilize this new feature on your mobile device as well as the web version of Google Search. All you have to do is tap the voice search icon and say 'Show me the menu for...' and pick the restaurant you want to see the menu from. Give it a try!

Gadgets, games, design, great food and craft beer are some of my passions. I hail from the northwest and try to utilize the beautiful weather by biking anywhere I can. I have a deep passion for android and have been in the android game since the G1. When I'm not writing for the site, you can find me playing League Of Legends, or playing one of my many Steam games. You may even spot my girlfriend and I destroying a few Toad portals. No one likes slime. I currently use a Nexus 4, and both versions of the Nexus 7
