The Moto 360 is the first Android Wear device, has a round display
Google's smartwatch OS, Android Wear, won't be worth much without some hardware to run it on, and Motorola is the first to step up to the plate with the Moto 360. While it seems that everyone has some kind of wrist-mounted computer nowadays, Motorola is going all out and producing the best-looking smartwatch to date-it actually looks like a watch!
Much of the good looks are due to the fact that the Moto 360 is the first smartwatch with a round display. The rest of the watch is just as elegant, with a metal casing and a leather or metal strap. Motorola doesn't provide much more information about the watch other than saying that it will turn on when you lift your wrist to look at it, ruling out any kind of always-on screen technology.
Motorola is promising that it will release the Moto 360 'in a variety of styles' globally in summer 2014.
LG is jumping into the fray too, with a more 'traditional' square smartwatch called the LG G Watch. LG says the device was 'developed in close collaboration with Google,' although Google seems to be using a device more like the Moto 360 for all its promotional items. LG also says its device will be launching in the second quarter of 2014.
The Moto 360 appears to be the real flagship though. Comparing it to the Pebbles and Galaxy Gears of the world, and it's clear that smartwatches have just been taken up a notch.
