Toyota says its cars will have Apple's CarPlay on board in 2015, then changes ...

Apple has been busy this last couple of weeks, most recently with the launch of iOS 7.1 (which took its sweet time arriving), but just before that Cupertino unveiled its new CarPlay in-car entertainment system.

And while there was a great long laundry list of car manufacturers set to support CarPlay, exactly when the system will actually begin to arrive, we don't know. But then, lo and behold, information on the official Toyota UK blog popped up saying that CarPlay will be coming to UK models in 2015 (as spotted by The Verge). Great - some concrete details - but wait...

Since this was first reported, Toyota appears to have done a very swift U-turn (a handbrake turn, you might say), and retracted this blog post.

This morning, Toyota updated the blog post to say: 'A previous version of this article said Apple CarPlay would be in Toyota cars from 2015. This is incorrect and we are happy to put the matter straight. No announcements about if and when Apple CarPlay will arrive in Toyota cars have been made.'

So there you have it. Not only is the timeframe of next year scrubbed, the post says no announcements have been made about 'if' CarPlay is coming - which is strange, as Toyota was definitely listed as a supporting manufacturer at the big Geneva Motor Show unveiling last week.

It seems someone got quite the flea in their ear, and wants to make sure this retraction is voiced in no uncertain terms.

It looks like we're just going to have to wait patiently for news of when CarPlay will be realised in vehicles, and which of the various manufacturer's models will carry it.
