'Saturday Night Live' announces new 'Weekend Update' anchor
'Saturday Night Live' has found a new anchor for 'Weekend Update,' a veteran in news satire.
'The Daily Show' correspondent Michael Che will replace Cecily Strong, creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels told The New York Times on Thursday. The 31-year-old comedian, who wrote for the show last season, joins co-anchor Colin Jost. Strong, meanwhile, will remain on the show as a featured player, according to The Times.
'This is about a new era, what feels appropriate for now,' Michaels told the paper. 'That's why we did a lot of combinations and tests, and this is kind of where we came out.'
NBC did not immediately return EW 's request for comment.
