LG Reveals Rounded G Watch R
LG this morning showed off its new rounded smartwatch, which will be on display at next week's IFA trade show in Berlin.
The LG G Watch R sports a 1.3-inch, 320-by-320 plastic OLED display, which will allow for viewing in bright sunlight as well as a variety of angles, LG said. It runs Google's Android Wear mobile OS and will tap into the apps in the Google Play store.
There's a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. LG said its gadget is dust- and water-resistant and features a heart rate monitor.
Smart notifications provide users with missed call and message info, as well as upcoming meeting and event reminders and local weather forecasts.
The LG G Watch R is expected 'in key markets' by the fourth quarter. Exact location and pricing was not released.
LG first teased its round G Watch in a video this weekend (below).
The device comes after the more square LG G Watch made its debut at Google I/O in June. In PCMag's review, we found that it includes smart Google Now functionality and larger text than the Samsung Gear Live, but is more expensive and has fewer features than the Gear Live.
The LG G Watch is on sale for $229 in black titan or white gold via Google Play, Best Buy, and Amazon.
It will have plenty of competition. Samsung today unveiled the Tizen-based Gear S, which will also be at IFA next week, while Motorola is expected to announce the price and availability for its round, Android Wear-based Moto 360 next week.
