'Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey' Episode 1 on Fox: Preview

The original 'Cosmos' hosted by Carl Sagan was for years the most popular program in the history of public broadcasting. Sagan had the ability to explain the mysteries of science and space in digestible bites for the viewing public. The shows cemented Sagan as the foremost authority on the stars, but a lot has changed since the first 'Cosmos' aired.

The knowledge of our environment and TV's ability to produce tantalizing visuals is light years ahead of the early 80s. The culture's modern day Carl Sagan is American Museum of Natural History expert Neil Degrasse Tyson. When 'Family Guy' creator Seth MacFarlane, a 'Cosmos' superfan, had the opportunity to produce a new take on the classic space odyssey his top choice was the dynamic Tyson. Tyson is a frequent guest on 'The Daily Show' and '60 Minutes'. He's a scientist that feels like your best friend.

The new 'Cosmos' is going to do for the stars what 'Planet Earth' did for our terra firma. The finale of 'True Detective' airs at the same time, but both shows are tied for must see tonight. Here's a promo for tonight's first episode of the new 'Cosmos'.

Be there tonight as Tyson takes us deeper into the 'Cosmos' than ever possible before.
