Apple's iPad 2 disappears, replaced by iPad with Retina display


VANCOUVER - Apple's iPad with Retina display is now replacing the iPad 2 as the lowest-priced full-size iPad, at $399 in Canada.


Apple made the announcement today that the 16GB iPad fourth generation iPad will be available starting at $399 for the WiFi model and $529 for the WiFi and cellular version through Apple's online and retail stores.


The iPad 2 was the last Apple device to have a 30-pin connector, the predecessor to the Lightning connector of today's Apple devices.


The iPad with Retina display will be available in the 16GB version only and in black or white.


The rest of the iPad prices remain the same, with Apple pricing the iPad Air, entry level 16GB WiFi model at $519 and the iPad mini with Retina display starting at $419 for the 16GB WiFi model.


Apple first launched its iPad with Retina display, fourth generation late in 2012 at the same time it launched its first iPad mini and barely seven months after launching its first Retina display iPad, which had the 30-pin connector.
