Roku launches HDMI streaming stick to turn every TV into a smart one

Roku has announced the Roku Streaming Stick, a HDMI stick that will turn any TV into a smart TV without having to worry where you put the box.

The streaming stick will plug into a HDMI port on your TV and will be powered by a normal plug or by using a spare USB port on your TV.

The Roku Streaming Stick will allow you to access services such as Netflix, Now TV and BBC iPlayer, working in a similar way to the Roku Box 1.

It will offer you the ability to stream from more than 750 channels including movies, TV episodes, music, news, sports and free programming, all in up to 1080p HD video.

These channels including the recently launched 4OD, Netflix and YouTube, which the Roku 3 can do with a new update to the Roku mobile app, but the Roku 1 and Roku 2 can't.

In terms of control, you can use the remote app or the bundled remote control. The Roku Streaming Stick will be available in the UK from early April for £49.99.
