Tomato Basil Pantry Pasta
Tomato basil pantry pasta is the kind of recipe that saves a busy evening. It uses canned tomatoes, dried pasta, garlic, and a handful of basil to create a clean, familiar dinner with very little effort.

Ingredients
- 12 ounces pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- 1 can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
- Salt and black pepper
- Grated Parmesan or pecorino, optional
Method
- Cook pasta in salted water until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup pasta water.
- Warm olive oil in a skillet. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Toss pasta with the sauce, adding reserved pasta water as needed.
- Finish with torn basil and grated cheese.
Kitchen Notes
For a richer sauce, stir in a tablespoon of butter at the end. For extra protein, add white beans or grilled chicken.
