For old time's sake, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wanted a parting gift from outgoing NBA Commissioner David Stern.

Stern obliged.

The NBA fined Cuban $100,000 on Saturday for 'confronting the game officials on the court after the conclusion of the game and directing inappropriate language to them, it was announced today by NBA Commissioner David Stern.'

The incident happened following Dallas' 129-127 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.

It pushes Cuban's fines from the NBA - the announced ones anyways - to nearly $2 million since he bought the Mavericks in 2000.

The two clashed early in Cuban's tenure as owner, and the NBA fined Cuban $500,000 in 2002, the largest fine the NBA has given one person. But over the years, Stern and Cuban found common ground and have a mutual respect for each other.

When Stern announced in October he planned to resign as commissioner effective Feb. 1, Cuban told USA TODAY Sports in an email, 'We didn't always agree, but we have always respected each other. It won't be the same when he leaves. ... He is really loved.'
