Polaroid is offering a ticket to what promises to be one of the cheapest 4K displays yet; the 50-inch 50GSR9000 will retail for just $999.

Polaroid has yet to release many details about this TV -- which will be on display at CES 2014 -- but says it will have three HDMI ports and a 'contemporary, modern look.' That, and a lot of marketing speak about how great 4K is. But I have a feeling it will perform similarly if not identically to the Seiki 50-inch SE50UY04 which also has three HDMI inputs. The Seiki can now be found online for $700.

The company has yet to announce if the TV will pass the newest HDMI 2.0 standard, but given the budget price it's very unlikely.

The company is also selling a 50-inch 50GSR7100 50-inch Roku Ready Smart TV (1080p) television, which comes with a Roku Streaming Stick, for $599.

Polaroid is one of the better known 'zombie brands' -- so-called because a company disappears and sells its naming rights to another company -- while the TV is actually manufactured by a company called Empire Electronics Corp. based in the United States.
