Red Sox sign Grady Sizemore to one
The Red Sox have signed Grady Sizemore, the former Cleveland Indians center fielder, who hasn't played in the major leagues since 2011.
According to a report by CBS Sports, the one-year deal was for $750,000 but is loaded with incentives up to $6 million.
Sizemore, 31, has battled a plethora of injury problems and has had several surgeries on his right knee and back. He had been in negotiations with the Cincinnati Reds as well.
Sizemore played for Cleveland from 2004-11 and has a lifetime batting average of .269. His best season was 2006, when he hit .290 with 28 home runs, 53 doubles, and 76 RBIs. Sizemore, a lefthanded hitter, made three All-Star teams and won two Gold Gloves.
To make room on the 40-man roster, righthanded pitcher Brayan Villarreal was designated for assignment.
