Tom Brady says he's not worried about Andrew Luck
Quarterback vs. quarterback matchups are the most overrated topic in the NFL. That's due to the very simple reason that quarterbacks never actually play against each other. We all love when Tom Brady faces off against Peyton Manning and act like it's a referendum on the two quarterbacks, while willfully ignoring that Brady is actually playing against Manning's defense, not the quarterback himself.
If anyone understands this, it's quarterbacks like Brady. Ahead of Saturday's divisional playoff game against Manning's Colts successor, Brady revealed that he hasn't watched, and won't watch, a single Andrew Luck snap this week. That includes Saturday's 28-point comeback against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Brady talked to WEEI in Boston on Monday (via ESPNBoston.com):
'Truthfully, I'm not worried about the opposing quarterback. I'm thinking about the defense and what I need to do to play against them.
I didn't watch one snap of Indy's offense, nor will I this week. I'll be focused on the defense and what we need to do score points, because that's what my job is.'
No, Tom, no! Your reasoned, rational explanation isn't accepted. This game is about old vs. new, Hall of Famer vs. new kid on the block. Whatever happens on Saturday night in Foxborough, one quarterback will win because he bested the other. It's like a medieval dual. Defenses, ha! They play no role in such things.
Won't somebody please think of the narrative?!
