Melbourne, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - The world No. 1 doubles team of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci secured their second straight Australian Open title on Friday with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win over Russia's Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.
The third-seeded Russian duo pushed the top-seeded Italians to the brink, as Makarova and Vesnina held a 5-2 lead in the third and final set.
However, Errani and Vinci battled back, winning the final five games of the match to become the first team to repeat as Aussie Open champions since Serena and Venus Williams turned the trick in 2010.
The tough Italian duo secured their fourth Grand Slam doubles title, while Makarova and Vesnina were looking for their second Grand Slam crown after downing Errani and Vinci in last year's French Open doubles final.
Errani and Vinci will split $458,000 for winning the Aussie Open.
