Samsung's latest flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone is hitting the U.S. prepaid carriers, Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile, soon.
Samsung, the largest smartphone maker in the world, officially unveiled the latest Galaxy S5 smartphone during an Unpacked 5 event in Barcelona, Monday, February 24. Less than a week later, anticipated buyers in the United States are treated with great news. In an announcement made through official Facebook accounts of Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile, America's leading prepaid carriers backed by Sprint's network, confirmed the Samsung Galaxy S5 arriving on the network 'soon.'
Consumers who stick with contract-free phones and pay-as-you-go service can expect Samsung's flagship device from either carriers. Virgin and Boost did not specify the exact launch date for the Galaxy S5, but reports suggest the sales to begin during the second quarter, somewhere from April to June this year.
Samsung, on the other hand, confirmed the date during the launch event, earlier this week. According to the tech giant, the Galaxy S5 will be available in all retail outlets, through major carriers and online sellers in 150 countries, starting April 11, 2014. The release date from the carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and U.S. Cellular, awaits confirmation.
Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile confirming the Galaxy S5 on their networks shouldn't be surprising as both carriers are under Sprint's umbrella. Sprint is usually among the first U.S. carriers to bring new smartphones under its network.
As for some of the notable features in the latest Galaxy S5 (covered in a previous article), Samsung introduced finger scanning technology, improved camera with impressive features, better resolution, faster connections, lasting battery, health and fitness integration with Heart Rate Sensor, to name a few.
The pricing details have not been decided by either carrier. But some Facebook suggestions speculate the high-end handset to range between $650 and $700, off-contract.
