New Year's Eve preview: Kathy Griffin already making Anderson Cooper giggle ...
For years now, the best part of staying in on New Year's Eve has been watching the battle of wills between Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper on CNN as he worries that she'll swear, strip, and/or throw something at the artists performing on ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve. And, of course, those are very real concerns because she has done all three (and worse), which we're reminded of in the video below of the duo, along with Griffin's beloved box wine-loving mother Maggie, previewing this year's festivities (Dec. 31, 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET).
While nothing could top the great crotch kissing incident of 2012 (embedded below with some of their other greatest hits), there is potential for matching it with Miley Cyrus in the New Year's Rockin' Eve lineup. Per this year's official schedule for all the happenings in Times Square, Cyrus is set to perform at 11:39 p.m. ET - which gives Griffin plenty of time to riff on Cyrus beforehand and should be late enough in the night to let her go wild with her reaction and, fingers crossed, re-creation afterward. (We all remember what happened after Lady Gaga performed in 2011.)
Also promising: There's an exclusive clip from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie debuting at 10:50 p.m. ET in Times Square, which means Kathy could remind Anderson of the failed 2011 bit in which the Green Goblin from Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark kidnapped him and tried to convince him to become an anchorman on his World Wide Freak Network (WWFN). Remember Kathy's quip that night after Anderson coughed: 'Was that your integrity coming up and now it's gone?'
That was almost as bad as Kathy and Anderson meeting Psy:
