Q

A Tribe Called Quest may be over-the legendary rap group promised their opening slot for Kanye West was their last show ever-but founding member Q-Tip is far from done with Tribe. The 43-year-old MC has teamed up with his longtime friend Leonardo DiCaprio and the actor's Wolf of Wall Street co-star Jonah Hill to develop and produce a TV series based on his experiences with A Tribe Called Quest. The untitled, scripted drama will focus on Native Tongues, the hip hop collective ATCQ helped form alongside Jungle Brothers and De La Soul in the late '80s.

Boasting a positive outlook (especially compared to the concurrent gangsta rap movement), a strong jazz influence and Afrocentric lyrics, Native Tongues was a strong force in rap from the late '80s to the mid '90s. Details are scant on the project, which doesn't even have a writer attached to it. That means there's no word as to whether the TV show will cast actors as the real-life players in the rap collective-which also included Queen Latifah, Busta Rhymes and Monie Love-or create fictional characters based on Q-Tip's memories of the movement.

Deadline reports DiCaprio's production company-Appian Way-will begin shopping the project to networks next week.
