Jack is back.

The Fox network on Monday announced that '24: Live Another Day,' the 12-episode event series inspired by the popular show, will premiere with a two-hour installment at 8 p.m. on May 5 before settling into its old time slot at 9 p.m. Mondays the following week.

Set and shot in London, the series will once again follow the exploits of heroic agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) as he attempts to thwart a terrorist attack that 'could change the world forever.' And even though the series will span only 12 hours, the story will still take place over a 24-hour period.

Sutherland, who appeared here at the TV critics press tour along with cast mate Mary Lynn Rajskub and the show's producers, admitted he's nervous about stepping back into the career-defining role he played for eight years.

'I'm about as anxious and wound up as I have been in a long time,' he told reporters, explaining that he feels pressure to not let down fans.

Producers said the saga will pick up four years after the finale of the weekly series with Jack as a highly wanted fugitive on the run. A CIA agent played by Yvonne Strahovski ('Chuck'; 'Dexter') has made it her mission to catch him. During that chase, Jack will come back into contact with longtime ally Chloe O'Brian (Rajskub), who, at this point, isn't the same person fans have come to know and will actually be pitted against Jack.

'She's more of a radical, Snowden-type character,' explained executive producer Manny Coto.

The hunt, added Coto, will lead to London, the 'site of some pretty crazy events.'

Also reprising their roles from the original series will be Kim Raver and William Devane. Newcomers, in addition to Strahovski, include Judy Davis, Giles Matthey, Gbenga Akinnagbe and Michael Wincott.

Rajskub said that, after reading scripts for the first two episodes, she was 'on the edge of my seat and wanting more.'

Production on '24: Live Another Day' begins in England in two weeks.

'I'm sure we'll be hated by a large portion of London for snarling their traffic,' Sutherland said.
