Seahawks' Richard Sherman attends Brooklyn Nets game, says Daily News ...
Seahawks star Richard Sherman greets a young Nets fan at the Barclays Center on Monday.
What the heck has happened to the Richard Sherman we all know and, well, love?
Sherman went from epic trash-talking to dull in his first interview ahead of the Super Bowl, and Monday night at the Nets game he laughed off the Daily News back page calling him 'The Mouth the Bored.'
'I thought it was pretty funny, man. It is what it is,' Sherman said from his courtside seat at the Nets-Raptors game in Brooklyn. 'You just have to be yourself. Sometimes I go overboard, sometimes I don't give 'em enough, but I only know how to be me. It's all in good fun, man.'
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson also was at the Barclays Center, but sat in a suite with other teammates. Super Bowl Media Day is Tuesday at the Rock in Newark, the former home of the Nets.
LeGRAND SOLUTION The site of Super Bowl XLVIII is all too familiar to Eric LeGrand. MetLife Stadium is where the former Rutgers defensive tackle fractured his c3 and c4 vertebrae, leaving him paralyzed following a hit he made on special teams on Oct. 16, 2010, in a game against Army.
It'd only be right that LeGrand, fighting to one day walk again, return to MetLife Stadium on Sunday for the Super Bowl. But early Monday morning on WFAN, the diehard Broncos fan said he didn't have a ticket to the game.
It didn't take long for that to be rectified, as former longtime Cowboys executive Gil Brandt, currently a contributor to NFL.com and Sirius, provided a big-time assist.
'(Brandt) heard me talking about it on the radio and he said 'Well, you can have two tickets from me,' ' LeGrand said on Radio Row, donning a blue Broncos knit hat. 'Just like that.'
LeGrand has been a Broncos fan since 1996 and can't wait to take his mom, Karen, with him to the game on Sunday.
'It's like a dream come true that they make it to the Super Bowl the year that it's in New Jersey in the stadium that I got hurt in,' he said. 'It's like it's meant to be.'
BALMY FORECAST Cheer up fans, it's going to be nice and toasty Sunday. A nice and toasty 30-plus degrees.
AccuWeather forecasters said Monday that the polar vortex that has again brought brutal cold air is heading out of town before kickoff.
Temperatures and precipitation will be more consistent with what is considered average for early February, with a daytime high in the 30s.
'Given the time of year and location, we're expecting the best possible conditions, as the big game is being played in between arctic systems,' said senior meteorologist Henry Margusity of AccuWeather. 'By game time, temperatures will be falling into the 20s and the real-feal temperature could be in the teens, but players have certainly dealt with this and even worse conditions before.'
NEW JERSEY STATE OF MINDPete Carroll is nothing if not a quick learner.
One day after he was scolded at his press conference by a Jersey City councilman for referring to New York and not New Jersey, Carroll hit the issue head-on at the beginning of his Monday press conference.
'First, I'd like to say it's great to be here in New Jersey,' the Seahawks' coach said.
On Sunday, Jersey City councilman Rich Boggiano hijacked the microphone at Carroll's press conference and told him, 'You said you're glad to be back in New York. I just want to remind you, you're in New Jersey.''
Carroll apologized and said, 'I get you. My bad.'
THE WINNER IS ... BRONCOS IN OT! Super Bowl XLVIII will have it all - some snow, a furious comeback and a game-winning kick in the first overtime contest in the game's history.
At least that's how EA Sports sees Sunday's clash between the Broncos and Seahawks at MetLife Stadium playing out.
The video game company released its official Madden Super Bowl prediction on Monday, an annual simulation on its flagship football video game. EA Sports has correctly predicted eight of the previous 10 Super Bowls, and if the company is right again this year, it will mean Peyton Manning and the Broncos will come out on top, 31-28.
WON & DONE? Broncos cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie said he may retire if Denver wins - a surprising admission for a player who is sure to cash in on free agency after a bright season. But that's what Rodgers-Cromartie, who has made headlines for saying the NFL might not be ready for an openly gay player, was selling on Monday. He claimed he might use the psychology classes he studied in college to become a guidance counselor.
HOPE FOR THE LITTLE GUY The play of 5-11 Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has made it easier for similar-sized players such as 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel to gain acceptance among NFL teams, Carroll said. Manziel has entered his name in the NFL draft but is viewed as a risky pick because of his size (he's listed at 6-1).
'Johnny's a great example of an incredible athlete that might not have been considered as highly, but now that Russell has had the success...' Carroll said.
FEELS LIKE HOME In case anyone wondered what the Seahawks thought of the Giants' practice facility, they are fans.
Receiver Golden Tate called it 'really nice,' adding that it's 'similar' to the Seahawks' own practice home, and that there was 'good food' in the team cafeteria.
