Sherman responds to racist Twitter toughguys

In the aftermath of his rant with Fox's Erin Andrews following the Seahawks win over the 49ers, Richard Sherman's Twitter feed was flooded with hateful, racist remarks from fans.

And he saw them all.

'Last night shows that racism is still alive and well... And that's so sad.... At Least some people respect MLKs dream,' Sherman tweeted from his official account Monday morning.

Hundreds of tweets directed at Sherman, or about the Seahawks cornerback, included the N-word, with many of those tweeting the hate being shouted down by other users. There were also less profane, but no less racist, remarks made about the 25-year-old Stanford grad.

Video of Sherman's postgame interview with Andrews - just moments after he saved Seattle's season by breaking up a pass into the end zone from Colin Kaepernick to Michael Crabtree - instantly went viral Sunday night.

'Well, I'm the best corner in the game! When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree that's the result you are going to get! Don't you even talk about me!'

All Andrews asked was for Sherman to take her through the play. She got more than she bargained for and followed up by asking who Smith was referring to.

'Crabtree. Don't open your mouth about the best or I'm going to shut it for you real quick!' Sherman screamed. 'L-O-B!'

As for the Twitter hate he received Sunday night and Monday morning, it clearly hasn't gone unnoticed, and will surely be used as fuel when the Seahawks face the Broncos at MetLife Stadium on Feb. 2.

'A lot of people are like, 'Don't read your clippings,'?' Sherman told the Daily News last week. 'I read them every day. Anything negative somebody said about me, I find it and use it as fuel . . . So things like All-Pros, Pro Bowls and these awards don't mean as much, because you're focused on the chip (on your shoulder) and you stay hungry.'
