Zac Efron addresses rehab question on 'Today'
Without divulging details, actor Zac Efron Tuesday for the first time publicly addressed his reported stints in rehab last year.
On NBC's 'Today,' promoting his upcoming film 'That Awkward Moment,' Efron, 26, responded to co-anchor Savannah Guthrie saying, 'I know last year was a little bit hard. There were reports that you'd gone through rehab. Anything you want to share about that? And I think mostly your fans want to know how you're doing and [that] you're doing OK.'
'I'm in the best place I've ever been,' the onetime 'High School Musical' star answered. 'I've never been this happy before.'
Referring to his co-stars Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller beside him, he added, 'I'm extraordinarily grateful for these guys and to be here promoting this movie and, I dunno -- things are good, so thank you for asking.'
TMZ.com said in September that Efron had been using cocaine for more than two years as well as a form of Ecstasy known as Molly. The site said he sought professional help in March, and checked into a private residence where he underwent several weeks of outpatient treatments.
This was in addition to treatment he received in April, according to both E! News and People.
TMZ reported last year that Efron's substance-abuse issues had affected his work on the Seth Rogen film 'Neighbors,' saying he missed several days on set. That film is scheduled for release May 9.
