Chris Brown's bad behavior linked to bipolar disorder, PTSD
A probation report says Chris Brown is suffering from bipolar disorder, PSTD and insomnia, which could explain his aggressive behavior.
Chris Brown 's history of bad boy behavior likely resulted from underlying and untreated medical issues, including bipolar disorder, a probation report released Friday revealed.
Now in rehab for anger management, the singer has been diagnosed in recent months with bipolar II disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, 'severe' insomnia and past substance abuse, a letter from his rehab center attached to a probation report stated.
'Our clinical team believes Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and PTSD,' the Jan. 31 letter obtained by the Daily News said.

The center said Brown, 24, has been a model patient since re-enrolling in the program on Nov. 20, following an incident where he tossed a rock through the window of his mother's car.
He participates in six to eight individual therapy sessions per week, has passed his drug tests and willingly gets up at 5 a.m. to report for court-ordered community labor, the report said.
The 'Kiss Kiss' singer was in court Friday as the judge on his Rihanna-related felony assault case said it was evident he was responding well to treatment.

'The judge is pleased and so are we with his progress, and we hope it continues,' Brown's prominent lawyer, Mark Geragos, told The News after the hearing. 'Chris is healthy and is doing very well. He's spectacular.'
Geragos said Brown likely will remain in in-patient treatment as they work to resolve his misdemeanor assault case in Washington, D.C. The Grammy winner was arrested just blocks from the White House on Oct. 27 after 20-year-old art student Parker Adams said Brown and a bodyguard smacked him in the face outside the W Hotel.
Adams claimed the melee erupted when he tried to crash a fan photo Brown was taking with two other people.

Brown has pleaded not guilty. He was on probation for beating up then-girlfriend Rihanna at the time of the October arrest.
His Los Angeles County judge later revoked the probation, citing the Washington case.
In the report released Friday, Brown's probation officer said he didn't think Brown deserved jail.

'Although the probationer's progress on probation has not been perfect, his actions demonstrate that he is making an overall good faith effort to comply with the orders of the court and probation conditions,' the report said.
'At this time it does not appear that it would be in the interest of justice if the probationer were to serve a substantial time in custody,' it said.
Brown has completed 250 hours of an updated community labor sentence since he received an additional 1,000 hours last year, the report said.
He can complete his remaining 750 hours by the current probation expiration date of Sept. 1 if he serves four days a week, the report said.
'The probationer would like to inform the court that he appreciates what he has learned in the rehabilitation facility, as it has allowed him to change his life for the better,' the report from the probation officer said.
