A liberal arts college in upstate New York is offering a course on the sociology of Miley Cyrus this summer.
No twerking required.
The course, titled 'The Sociology of Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender and Media,' will be offered by Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, the Saratogian newspaper reported.
Visiting Assistant Professor Carolyn Chernoff said she plans to use the controversial 21-year-old pop star as 'a lens into cultural conflict.'
'Miley Cyrus is a surprisingly complicated cultural moment,' she told the Schenectady Daily Gazette. 'I created (the course) as a creative and rigorous way of looking at what's relevant about sociology and sociology theory.'
Chernoff got the idea after teaching a course on youth culture that featured a video of Cyrus twerking at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
