Lenovo unveils Thinkpad Tablet 10 with 64
LENOVO HAS UNVEILED the Thinkpad Tablet 10, a Windows 8 tablet based on Intel's Bay Trail Atom chip that will arrive with accessories to make it an all-in-one productivity device.
The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 10 will ship with the 64-bit versions of Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Pro, meaning that it should be more attractive to the enterprise looking to integrate the tablet into their businesses.
The tablet follows Lenovo's traditional Thinkpad design, touting a black aluminium finish with red accents, weighing 590g and measuring under 9mm thick.
It's powered by a quad-core Intel Atom Z3795 processor, previously codenamed Bay Trail, which was launched at the chipmaker's Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco last year.
Lenovo claims that the 22nm Atom chip update - along with the chipmaker's new Silvermont Core microarchitecture that offers a wider dynamic operating range for better power efficiency - improves the tablet's performance by up to two times over Intel's last Clover Trail Atom chips. Because of the updated Intel chip, the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 10 promises up to 10 hours of battery life.
The Thinkpad Tablet 10 will have a 10.1in IPS 10-point multitouch display with 1920x1200 resolution. Like its predecessor, the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 8, it will be offered with options such as Trusted Platfrom Module (TPM) support, 4G wireless data and fingerprint/Smart Card readers, along with 2GB or 4GB RAM options, Lenovo said. On the back, there will be an 8MP camera and on the front, a 2MP camera.
More notable, however - especially for businesses - is that the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 10 will launch with a range of accessories that enhance productivity, such as an active Wacom digitizer for more accurate stylus input, an 'ultrabook' laptop dock that turns the tablet into a laptop, a charging dock/stand for use on a desk, a 'Quickshot' cover made especially for taking photos and a ruggedised case with a handstrap on the back for times when a clipboard and paper might be needed.
Starting in June, the Thinkpad Tablet 10 will come in two different storage sizes of 64GB and 128GB, priced from $599, or around £300. Storage will also be expandable via a microSD card slot.
The Ultrabook Keyboard will cost $129, the dock $119, the Quickshot cover $59 and the rugged case at $69, although this won't be available until summer, Lenovo said. µ
