New Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater didn't want to be drafted by Browns

Johnny Manziel was not the only person who was ecstatic when the Cleveland Browns drafted him with the 22nd pick.

Teddy Bridgewater, selected by the Minnesota Vikings 10 picks later, was equally excited knowing he didn't have to play in Cleveland.

'There was a chance, but I actually told my agent (Kennard McGuire) that's not the place where I wanted to be,' Bridgewater said Tuesday on The Dan Patrick Show. 'Throughout this entire process I felt comfortable with the Minnesota Vikings. Every visit that I had with the team, you know, there was a family environment and the players, great guys. A great group of guys. So I felt comfortable wanting to play here.'

Given his remarks, it's a good thing that the Browns had a last-second change of heart on draft day. According to ESPN, Cleveland had actually written Bridgewater's name on its draft card, only to get cold feet in the 11th hour and opt for Johnny Football instead. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam later dismissed the report - 'That's crazy. That's nuts,' he said - and rookie coach Mike Pettine scoffed that it was, 'beyond laughable.'

Even though he didn't want to play in Cleveland, Bridgewater said Tuesday that being passed over would be something that would motivate him as he tries to beat out Matt Cassel and Christian Ponder for Minny's starting job.

'Coach (Mike) Zimmer loves guys who play with a chip on their shoulder,' Bridgewater said. 'I just continued to stay within my character, but at same time, I know my mindset.'
