Padres place Andrew Cashner on 15
By Mike Axisa | Baseball Writer
The Padres have placed right-hander Andrew Cashner on the 15-day disabled list with a sore elbow, according to Corey Brock of MLB.com. Details about the injury are unknown.
Cashner, 27, has a history of shoulder problems, but this is his first elbow issue. Considering the recent epidemic of Tommy John surgeries, it's especially scary whenever a pitcher goes down with an elbow problem. We should learn more about Cashner's condition later on Saturday.
In nine starts and 57 1/3 innings this season, Cashner is 2-5 despite a 2.35 ERA (143 OPS+) and a 2.76 K/BB ratio. The team's Opening Day starter broke out by going 10-9 with a 3.09 ERA (113 ERA+) in 175 innings last season.
The Padres lost righty Josh Johnson to Tommy John surgery a few weeks ago, before he ever made a start for them.
