Report: Apple Puts Faith in 12

Apple has apparently decided that the key to stellar sales in 2014 lies in hitting the 12-inch screen-size sweet-spot - will the 2014 MacBook Air and iPad Pro prove their point?

Apple may well have decided that 2014 is the year of the 12-incher...at least as far as screen size is concerned. With just weeks to go before WWDC once gain opens its doors in San Francisco, a variety of sources are tipping an all-new 12-inch MacBook Air variant that could debut at the event.

This could then be followed by the 12-inch iPad Pro now though to be held back to Q4 at the very earliest.

Back with the 2014 MacBook Pro first of all, the general consensus is that along with Retina display panels as standard, the new range will this year be complemented with the first 12-inch model. Analysts seem to be in agreement that a 12-inch panel would represent a considerably more desirable option than the current 11-inch entry-level variant, which will most likely be retired altogether once its slightly bigger brother arrives.

This year's MacBook Air range is also expect to ship without any kind of cooling fan, in order to facilitate true silent running.

As for the iPad Pro, Apple's biggest iPad to date has been the subject of heavy debate for quite some time...despite having yet to be in any way confirmed as a reality. Critics argue that a 12-inch or 12.9-inch tablet PC is just too big, heavy and most likely expensive to be of any real value to the mainstream consumer market. However, should the iPad Pro successfully bridge the gap between the firms tablet PC and notebook ranges while at the same time adding true split-screen multitasking, it could be pure gold for the corporate community.

Of course, we'll likely be waiting quite a while before we find out the truth on the latter - the iPad Pro is as much a figment of the media's imagination right now as Apple's iTV set or the eventual iToaster.

Still, we live in hope.
