Thunder: Serge Ibaka day

Serge Ibaka is suddenly day-to-day for the Thunder. (USATSI) More postseason coverage: Playoff schedule, results | Latest news, notes

Five days after San Antonio Spurs Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard said they were skeptical that Thunder forward Serge Ibaka would miss Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, let alone the entire series, the Thunder announced Friday that Ibaka's swelling has substantially decreased and he's now day-to-day for the series... including Game 3.

Un-freaking-believable. And yet, so believable.

From the Thunder:

'The abundance of blood and therefore swelling in Serge's calf has reduced substantially and unexpectedly, allowing a level of movement and stability not thought possible after the initial diagnosis. Based on both imaging and physical exam, the considerable swelling in the calf indicated the likelihood of a certain degree of injury, and that established the original time frame for recovery.

At present, Serge has yet to complete a full basketball workout, but is walking and doing light basketball drills. With this new information, and in an effort to keep his status current, we are now listing him as day-to-day with the understanding that there is a possibility for him to play in this series.'

The Spus have dominated this series to such a degree that you wonder if Ibaka playing, especially if limited, could really have any sort of impact. But given how awful the Thunder have been at protecting the rim, this can only help them to try and even the series as it heads back to Oklahoma City.

The Thunder will need more than Ibaka to get back into this thing, but Ibaka provides an athleticism, defense, offensive ability and an emotional lift to a team that needs it. The conspiracy theorists were right. It looks like it's very possible we may see an Ibaka
