Verizon rolls out XLTE data service, Voice HD 'VoLTE' to follow

XLTE, Verizon Wireless' 'latest' data services, is now live. Those in several states covering roughly half of Verizon's current 4G LTE presence can already take advantage, and the new service covers a lot of existing smartphones as well. Those big red customers who have an capable mobile device in an XLTE coverage sites should definitely notice faster internet speed and better overall performance.

XLTE isn't necessarily new, but an improvement over the existing Long-Term Evolution (LTE) wireless communication technology. Verizon improved the hindrances and limitations currently present with LTE, providing U.S. users a wider pipeline to access the things Americans want to see through the internet. Now Verizon's subscriber can now enjoy faster data, which is as concerning as it is great.

On capped plans, that could gobble up data faster than you like if you're not careful. If you're lucky enough to still have unlimited data and XLTE-enabled handset devices, there isn't much of a glass ceiling to hit.

XLTE supports the HTC ONE Max and One (M8), Apple's iPhone 5S and 5C, the Note 3 and Galaxy S5 from Samsung, Nokia Lumia Icon, LG G2 and most probably the still unreleased LG G3. The Droid MAXX, Mini, and Moto X from Motorola also take advantage of the aforementioned technology, as well as several connected computing tablets like iPad Air, Galaxy Tab 2, Note Pro and 10.1 variants. Alongside with the XLTE launch, Verizon is now coming out with its plans for a VoLTE or HD Voice over LTE which will officially be rolled out later this year. This was certainly spurred by AT&T, which just announced its own VoLTE offering but with extremely limited smartphone support on tow.

Verizon wants to stand out more than AT&T by promising to deliver not just voice alone but also video calling over XLTE. Moreover, the U.S. telecom claims that once the feature rolls out to the market, probably at the same time as VoLTE itself, users will be able to switch between voice calls and voice with video calls seamlessly.

The company is also boasting it's upcoming VoLTE because it will be compatible with more devices, at least more than AT&T's current selection.
