Video Leak Tips Samsung Galaxy S5 Active

If leak videos are to be believed, Samsung is prepping a rugged version of its Galaxy S5 flagship phone.

Published this week by TK Tech News, the videos showcase an AT&T-based Galaxy S5 Active—the follow up to last year's dust- and water-proof S4 Active.

An updated model, the GS5 Active comes with the same buttons as its predecessor, but sports a Super AMOLED screen with what leaker 'TK' insists is a sharper-than-1080p display. (His own benchmark test suggests otherwise.)

Kept safe behind the reinforced exterior is a quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU, with 2GB of RAM and a 15.9-megapixel rear camera. The device reportedly runs Android 4.4.2, and boasts the same back-panel heart rate monitor as the Galaxy S5.

Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

If the leaked device turns out to be real, however, it could lead to another lineup of GS5-inspired devices, similar to the 16-megapixel-camera-based S4 Zoom and shrunken S4 Mini Samsung released last year.

Also rumored to be on the docket: the premium GS5 Prime, with a 5.2-inch Quad HD (QHD) display, quad-core Snapdragon 805 CPU, Adreno 420 GPU, and 3GB of RAM. Rumor has it the device will also come with Android 4.4.3 pre-installed.

Samsung's home country of South Korea this week announced a massive price cut for the Galaxy S4 Active, according to the Wall Street Journal. In an effort to help ease the burden on customers, SK Telecom is selling the no-contract GS4 Active for 528,000 won ($514.30)—a 40 percent decrease from its previous 899,800 won ($876.44) price tag.

Smaller rival LG Uplus is also debating a similar discount for several handset models, including the Galaxy S4 and the GS4 LTE-Advanced.
