HTC unveils a gold HTC One for European release

TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC has unveiled a gold HTC One smartphone that will go on sale in Europe before Christmas.

HTC unveiled a glitzy gold HTC One smartphone in October, of which only five were made. That handset had a price of £2,750, and one was given away to the winner of the best newcomer category, which HTC sponsors, at this year's Mobo awards.

HTC has some good news today for those lusting after its gold HTC One, as the firm will release a cheaper, toned-down model in Europe. Unlike the previous version, this won't come clad in expensive 18-carat gold, and will instead sport a 'golden' aluminium finish, much like Apple's iPhone 5S.

Beyond its gold-coloured casing, the latest HTC One model sports specifications identical to those of its black, silver, red and blue siblings.

You'll find the same 4.7in 1080x1920 resolution HD display, Google's Android 4.3 Jelly Bean mobile operating system - with an update to Android 4.4 Kitkat tipped for January - and HTC's Sense user interface, a quad-core 1.7GHz processor, a 4MP Ultrapixel rear-facing camera, a 2.1MP front-facing camera, 4G LTE support and a 2,300mAh battery.

HTC EMEA president Philip Blair said, 'Building on the all metal design of the HTC One, and the recent success of the HTC 18 carat gold MOBO phone, we are excited to have developed our own gold device, offering yet more choice to consumers.'

The gold HTC One will be released in the UK via Phones 4u, Carphone Warehouse and Vodafone. Pricing and exact availability details still remain a mystery. µ
