John Carmack Leaves id Software
It's the end of an era. After over twenty years, John Carmack has left the company he helped found, id Software. Carmack, who became the CTO at Oculus VR in August, has reportedly resigned to focus fully on that company. id will carry on in his absence.
Responsible for hugely influential games throughout the '90s like Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein 3D, the studio was acquired by ZeniMAx Media (owner of Bethesda Softworks) in 2009.
