NHL agrees to 12
TAMPA - The NHL has struck a 12-year, $5.2 billion agreement with Rogers Communications for all of the league's Canadian broadcast and multimedia rights.
The agreement, which is the largest media rights deal in league history, begins with the 2014-15 season and eliminates ESPN counterpart TSN, a hockey heavyweight, from the rights-holding picture, vaulting Rogers' Sportsnet brand to the forefront.

As part of the deal, Rogers selected CBC to continue airing nationally-televised regular season games and its staple Hockey Night in Canada program on Saturday nights, as well as playoff games. TVA Sports, meanwhile, will be the new home for all Canadian French-language NHL broadcasts. Those sub-licensing agreements with CBC and TVA Sports will help Rogers offset the $5.2 billion cost of the deal.
Rogers Communications owns a 37.5% stake in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which includes the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs. The NHL's board of governors officially must approve the deal at their meetings Dec. 9-10 in Pebble Beach, Calif.
